Romance Novel wreath

I am swooning over this sweet little romance novel wreath I just bought from Etsy. It apparently takes the maker 6 hours (and lord knows how many romance novels) to make the wreath pictured. It took me about 5 seconds to push a button and command it to arrive at my door.

I love the internet.

A fave from this weekend's family shoot. Truly, it's not possible to be any cuter.

Sara + Kenny are engaged

Sunday, November 28, 2010

This Thanksgiving was extra special as it gave me the opportunity to return to Giant City for an engagement session with Caleb's step-sister Sara and her fiance, Kenny. We spend a weekend every summer with Caleb's family at the Lodge, eating their famous fried chicken, petting the stuffed buffalo, and hiking through the wood up to the gorgeous sandstone formations that came to be known as Giant City. Because the high that afternoon was 40 degrees, we didn't trek all the way into the most striking spots, but we had more than enough to work with on the hike. Thanks to Sara and Kenny for being willing to risk the cold and to not laugh at the weeble-wobble pregnant lady huffing her way up the trail!

Holiday Fete

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

I had the pleasure of shooting Gwen's stunning holiday party last week. She transformed her gorgeous home into a winter wonderland with some help from the always fabulous Garden District and got everybody into some early, much needed holiday spirit!

Broad Avenue Happiness

Happiness

We came, we saw, we sold happiness.

Saturday was a blur but a happy blur of Memphians checking out an up and coming stretch of Midtown for a very unique event.

We set up our booth and quickly went about distributing cake pops and treasure maps and the keys to happiness (chocolate, naturally) and giant snowflakes. Customers received scalp massages, learned the fight dance sequence from Beat It and my personal favorite - received their own theme music as they strolled around Broad Avenue. I took advantage of the offer and strutted up and down to Stayin Alive and Sexy Back. I really don't think people knew what to make of a mime playing an inflatable guitar next to a cocky pregnant girl working it down the street, but it may have been the happiest I've been in weeks.

I put Harlow to work with a tray of cupcakes and killer sales pitch (i.e. I'm adorable, buy a cupcake), and when she wasn't cleaning up, she manned the puppet kissing booth and played dress up in our princess dressup bucket. Kerry Crawford DJ'ed happiness until the sunset and brought us to a perfect close.

Thank you to all the artists who contributed items and to all who shared creative genius. A huge thank you to my husband for pushing me to make this a reality rather than stash it away in my overflowing shoulda-coulda file. And another thank you to Harlow for not getting the stomach bug until AFTER we closed down the shop.

*edited to say that in my post-shop/stomach bug delirium, I didn't mention the most important part of Saturday. We raised just enough money to cover one child's surgery via Smile Train, so a huge thank you to all who have helped to restore a smile!

Happiness!

Less than 12 hours away until the grand opening (and closing) of Happiness on Broad Avenue.

I am thrilled to offer limited edition treasure maps by the crazy talented Sophorn Mcrae. She's got a great sneak peek on her blog right here.

Hope to see you tomorrow!

And can I just say? The keys to happiness? Delicious....

soup!

Who knew matzo ball soup was so easy to make? I can no longer whine about the dearth of Jewish delis in Memphis and instead tuck into my own yummy bowl of matzo goodness. What's your go-to comfort food?

Happy

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

I'm up to my ears in Happiness shopkeeping as we're set for our opening (and closing) this Saturday at the Broad Avenue facelift event.

But you want to know what's really making me happy right now?

I have a gold star in bitching about everything pregnancy related, but it's kinda hard to stay all sarcasticon when getting to see the kiddo in action. Behold! Baby Sweazy 2's straight to DVD debut!

And why I love this kid? He/she isn't even born and ALREADY SNACKING

Megan + Matt

Monday, November 15, 2010

It was rainy, romantic, and a perfect day to get married in Oxford. Megan and Matt tied the knot in a gorgeous church, danced downstairs and carried the party over to Ajax where they partied into the night.

Or so I guess since my pregnant behind traveled back to Memphis with my amazing partner in crime, Chip Chockley.*

Congratulations Megan and Matt!
